Duo South, was established in 2005 at the Royal College of Music in London where pianist, Salomé van der Walt-Wepener and flautist, Marlene Verwey were studying at the time. It is an exciting new ensemble that focuses on promoting South African music. Both Marlene and Salomé are soloists in their own right and have been awarded various scholarships and prizes in competitions. They were both the recipients of the prestigious SAMRO Overseas Scholarship for classical musicians. Duo South has had numerous successful performances in the United Kingdom.

In April of 2007 they undertook a very successful Première Tour to South Africa where they performed in Pretoria, George and at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival. During this tour, they premiered two new works by South African composers Stefans Grové and Hendrik Hofmeyr, commissioned by SAMRO on their behalf.
